...are everywhere. In buildings, our minds and our cats.

I like all of the readings this week. One makes me think of family travels while another makes me smile thinking of my own cat. And the third one? Anyone who has tried something new knows what that feels like-the wonder of 'Can I do it?'

Reading is like that. When we begin we wonder whether we will find it interesting. But then, good reading brings wonder with what we have been given. Finally, finished reading makes me wonder all the more about how it connects to me and my life.

It's all about the conversations we have in our minds from the reading we do. Enjoy those conversations!

Marbles and

saucers. One story more serious and one not so. Both are good, though. We read to learn, we read to understand, we read for fun. Seeing the world through different perspectives is always good. Enjoy the stories and let me know what you think.

An interesting article I read this week was reading during the summer. Students who read through the summer keep their skills far better than ones who don't. The stats were pretty dramatic. I was happy to think of all of  you who are reading. Good for you!

Have a great weekend of doing, sitting and relaxing with some reading thrown in for good measure.

Been awhile

but now I'm back. On vacation I listened to one book and read two others, both of which I enjoyed. As for listening to a book, I think I'll be adding that to my drive home.

Did you read last week? If you did then you're ahead of me.

My last read was the paired passages on families. I really enjoyed it, but then realized I had skipped one! I missed the chimpanzee passages-sorry! So, for my 7th graders, I'm catching up and reading about the smart chimps. May we all be as smart as them this year in our hallways and classrooms. We need to treat our fellow school mates like chimps!

The stories for the 8th graders tomorrow. Talk to you then.

The pancake story...

or is it a story of brains versus brawn? Who wins--the guy who can shoot or the guy who can think?

I like this story because it's a fun story--nothing much deep here, just fun. Like reading: fun.

Hope you had a good 4th. The heat was amazing and it'll be even more so tomorrow. It'll be a good day to lay around and do some fun reading.

The Dinner Party

I love this story!

The conflict, the fight, or argument in this case, is given to us, and then, bang! The story is over.

This story is also a perfect example of why we want to be well read with lots of bits of knowledge. The American could piece together what was happening and help out. His knowledge helped him.

Thinking and reading--two good skills to have!

This week's

readings: a party, pancakes and children. It is amazing what we can handle and what we value. Enjoy reading. For the short story readers, remember to skip the second story if you want. And for the Encounters people, I hope you're enjoying this level of book. I know you can handle it.

More specifics on them as the week goes on.

Have fun running around, lazing about and reading once in a while.
