Police work

Good readers connect to what they read. When I started these passages, I thought of all the reruns of Law and Order my daughter and I have watched: forensic evidence and an alibi comes into play in each and every one. Science and good listening are both great tools of detective work.

An isotope was my new word, and I'm still not sure what it means for sure, but that's okay because good readers also know they don't have to 'get' every word to understand the passage. I know it has something to do with how water is made up, and that's good enough.

Be good readers: connect to what you read and know that you don't have to know every word.

Cemetery Path

The picture is great, isn't it? It makes me think the dagger will be important. Using pictures to give you clues to start is always a good way to go. I also like the first line about the main character being "a timid little man."  It caught my interest to start. Let's see if anyone can catch the 'twist' before the ending. Let me know. Finally, when you're doing the questions, note one is on inference--yes!!!!

Next up? The passages for the soon-to-be seventh graders.

Dirt, rock, and

a rake.

That's what I worked with today. I raked rocks, stones and dirt that came down the gully last September when we had that rain. Remember it? School was just starting. Now, almost a year later, we are finished and looking to the next year.

I will read a story tomorrow. You too? Or the passages. Maybe Tuesday for me on that one. Look for some comments here.

For now, I'm off to do my other computer game, Quiddler.

Want to try?

Here's to our, no my, first week off.

Have you

...ever played It's Set Daily and it wants you to find the six sets. They time you, so I play everyday to see how well I do. Tonight it was 1 minute 18 seconds. Wow--good for me! A lot of times I'm way over 2 minutes.

Off  for the summer! The room is ready for a good cleaning (thanks to the crew this summer) and then I can get in in August and get us ready for September. And, starting Monday I will be checking out the stories and passages. Looking forward to it.

Anyone out there?!?!?!

School's out (for you!)

What a day: made new folders and organized for next year. But, for now, go out and enjoy the summer. Be active, see friends and family, do some good deeds, and read, even a bit will make me happy.

I've read the finals and am amazed at how much growth there was this year. Thank you!!

Now, enjoy, but do come on and visit with a comment.

Back for Summer Reading....and more!

It's been almost a year since I posted, but here I am again. Room 303 is going into the blog world again. I have so many students who have signed up to read this summer. This will be our meeting place to discuss and get together over reading.

Remember: If you want to leave a comment, hit the comment at the end of the post, write it in and then sign it, so I know who wrote it. You don't have to have an account; just select anon. Blogspot will send me the comment and then I'll post it. It won't be there immediately, but it will get on.

Looking forward to hearing from you all this summer!
